Stop Foreclosure, Replay on Your Terms
A client came into our office one afternoon with an active foreclosure case on his home. This client was unable to pay his property taxes, which resulted in the property tax holders taking legal action by attempting to sell his home through the court system. Through a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, Peace Law was able to stop the sale of the client’s home so they he could pay off the property taxes at a lower interest rate over a period of five (5) years rather than in one lump sum. In addition, Peace Law discovered that many of this tax bills were obtained by creditors in an improper fashion. This discovery decreased the total amount of property taxes owed by $6,000.
A client came to us with the exact same problem as described above. She had consolidated many debts into one loan through a local bank. The bank used her truck as collateral for this refinance. However, the amounts of the new loan was much greater than the value of her truck. This client filed a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, which allowed her to pay only the value of the truck at a much lower interest rate. By filing this Chapter 13 bankruptcy, our client kept her truck and saved over $32,000 over the life of the loan.
Less Interest, More Money to Live
Pay What a Car is Worth, Not What is Owed
A client came to Peace Law because he was bogged down by his monthly car payments. It turned out that these payments could be lowered through a Chapter 13 bankruptcy because he’d had those vehicles for longer than two and a half years. Before filing a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, this client owed almost $35,000 on these vehicles. After filing a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, this client only owed little over $22,000 at a lower interest rate. This resulted in savings of approximately $13,000 on just the principal of the loan.
A client, who operated his own business, came to Peace Law because he had not paid his state income taxes in several years. This client owed the Kentucky Department of Revenue over $58,000. After filing a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, Peace Law was able to wipe away almost $56,000 in past due income taxes to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
